First of all the movie is pushing two and a half hours. This is all fine, if it were all devoted to the movie itself. However, it almost seems as if they have already decided to make a sequel. I say this because they build on a mysterious character who is against Holmes from the beginning but Holmes only gets his name by the end. Kind of looking ahead too soon.
The casting of Jude Law as Watson was brilliant. Not necessarily because of Law himself, although he's a great actor. (Watch Road to Perdition
if you don't believe me) But it was because they took him out of his pretty boy element, and he wasn't the lead.
Rachel McAdams was necessary but her part wasn't written in well enough, and you didn't get the feel of the whole sex appeal thing with her because she wore men's clothing in most scenes.
Thea action was entertaining as expected. Nothing mind-blowing, but reminiscent of Ritchie's Snatch
film. Robert Downey, Jr. again proves why no one gave up on him in after his troubled times. The man is brilliant. I just wish Ritchie wrote more of the film as I feel he really shines in his own work, not in others. If he has more of a grip on the sequel, I'll love it to death.
Overall, it was good, not good enough to sit that long in, though. It has action, suspense, and humor. Just be patient.
I rate this movie 7.1 out of 10.
